What am I?

by | Jul 10, 2020

The Young Writers got creative recently with some ‘what am I?’ quizzes. Can you guess what they’re describing? Can you come up with your own?

What am I writing prompts - Storymakers

1.)
I can whistle but I can’t talk
And I can dance but can’t walk.
I can brighten someone’s day or make it worse!
I’m invisible yet many people hate me!

What am I?

2.)
I can be big
But I can be low
I look soft as a pillow but am wet.
You can make different shapes out of me
And sometimes I look angry.

What am I?

3.)
I have a fire inside me and people see me from miles away. Occasionally, I like to move myself, but I can only do that if I shoot through midnight. I always try to be the brightest in my family, but that’s if the red thing turns its head.

What am I?

4.)
The world needs me, but it wasn’t always so. You need me so much, I’m the first thing you look for whenever you go out or away from home. If I’m not there, you panic, feeling disconnected, discontent, out of kilter. I can give you the power of knowledge. Also, I can take you wherever you want to go; only virtually, mind. You don’t realise it, but I control you. I know everything there is to know.

What am I?

4.)
You can’t see me, but I am always there. However, you need me, but you don’t seem to appreciate that. I can get angry sometimes and if I do, I can fuel a fire; I love to watch the orange flames dancing. You pollute me with your waste and it chokes and poisons me.

What am I?

5.)
People hate me.
Some people think I’m dangerous.
Others run inside when I come out.
I am unpredictable.

What am I?

I am the voice of…

6.)
I am that sinking stone inside you, going further and further down, whispering miseries and should-have-dones. Hindsight. I’m that nagging voice reminding you that it is your fault, and you cannot change it. Whoever you are, you have done something, and I will never stop chanting it, over and over until I am all you can think about and you finally admit that you aren’t who you want to be. Everyone has done something they didn’t want to, and I won’t let anyone forget it, because those regrets, those what-I-would-have-done-insteads, they are what make us human, who push us to do better, be better. I may drag you down, pull you away from your sanity and innocence, but you must learn to become one with me, and understand that there was nothing you could have done. Twist my words however you chose, but I am honest enough that interpretation is only a matter of you, and how you listen to me.
